Notting Hill Carnival 2025: Live Band Tracking & Culture

Ready 4 Di Road is thrilled to support Notting Hill Carnival 2025 – live tracking 55 bands so you can find the vibes faster, link up with friends, and follow your favourite sections in real time. Europe’s biggest street festival returns to West London on Sunday 24 and Monday 25 August 2025, with Panorama steelband on Saturday. We’ll have an interactive map and live locations for participating bands throughout the weekend.

A Living History

Notting Hill Carnival grew from the Caribbean diaspora’s creativity and resilience. In the wake of the Windrush generation, Trinidad-born activist Claudia Jones organised an indoor Caribbean Carnival in 1959 to celebrate culture and counter racial tensions; a few years later community organiser Rhaune Laslett sparked the outdoor street tradition in 1966. From those roots, Carnival evolved into a celebration of Caribbean heritage across London’s streets – blending masquerade, music, food, and community in a joyful, defiantly public space.

Steelpan, Calypso & Soca

Steelpan is the heartbeat of Carnival’s origins in Trinidad and the wider Caribbean, and it’s central to Notting Hill’s identity to this day. London steel orchestras rehearse year-round for Panorama on Saturday night, then take to the road on Sunday’s family day. Long-standing UK bands such as Mangrove Steelband and Ebony Steelband have inspired generations of players, while calypso and today’s soca anthems soundtrack the parade from first whistle to last lap.

Sound Systems & UK Bass Culture

By the 1970s, Jamaican sound system culture; portable, high-power stacks driven by selectors and MCs; became a defining pillar of the weekend. Legendary rigs like Channel One, Aba Shanti-I and the late Jah Shaka helped shape London’s reggae, dub and bass lineage. The story stretches back to innovators such as Hedley Jones in Jamaica (a pioneer of custom amplifiers and early sound system engineering), whose technical ingenuity echoes in every chest-rattling bassline that now rolls down Ladbroke Grove.

Mas Bands & Creative Design

Mas (masquerade) is where costume design, storytelling and street performance meet. Historic London crews like Elimu Mas Band and the Mangrove community have championed tradition and community participation, while newer groups, such as Island Mas, bring contemporary design and fresh themes to the road. Sunday focuses on children’s and family mas; Monday is the big “Pretty Mas” showcase, when sections reveal their full feathers, gems and pageantry for Band of the Year honours.

Across both days we’ll publish live locations for 55 participating bands so you can:
